BACKGROUND

Cary Bickler's lifelong dedication to golf adds a breadth of experience to the Bickler family tradition of excellence. Well recognized in the golf industry since the early 1950's, the Bickler family pioneered successful golf operations through the development and ownership of courses in Southern California.

In early years, Cary's playing skills earned him the award of a college scholarship where he played golf competitively while completing his degree at San Diego State University. Cary furthered his education in post graduate studies at the University of California at Irvine, and served a field apprenticeship with the late renowned, golf course architect, Lawrence Hughes.

Cary established his golf course design firm in 1968. He is 1 of only 130 golf course architects in North America who have met the qualifications for membership in The American Society of Golf Course Architects. His resume includes selection by the PGA Tour of one of the courses he designed as the site of a PGA Invitational Tournament held in Las Vegas.

INFORMATION ON PRACTICE

Bickler focuses on creating a unique character in each design by effectively utilizing the natural lay of the land and incorporating the existing features of each site.

All designs are created by Cary personally. He places special emphasis on the detail of his Construction Drawings & Specifications, reliable Cost Estimates, and his coordination with other design team members. Cary believes the success of the finished course is a direct result of the architect's personal on-site involvement, and he is known through the industry for this hands-on approach to both design and implementation.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

Evident in all of Cary Bickler's golf course design work is his philosophy that the golf course must be in harmony with the natural environment and surroundings which are distinctive to each site.

A primary goal is to create aesthetically pleasing golf courses for players of all skill levels by incorporating multiple teeing areas, design subtleties, exciting themes, well-transitioned green contours, and variety in the layout. Courses are designed to be fair tests of golf with sensible regard for maintenance, overall management, and profit requirements by those who develop and operate golf courses.
