Something new has emerged in sleepy Borrego Springs, California, an area reminiscent of Palm Springs sixty years ago. Golf Course Architect Cary Bickler of San Diego has designed a new public 18-hole championship golf course for the Cameron Brothers who are developing an 1,150 acre resort community. Borrego Springs Resort & Country Club is about an hour drive south of the burgeoning Palm Springs golf mecca, and 90 miles northeast of the San Diego airport. Surrounded by the 600,000 acre Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, (America's largest state park), Borrego Springs Resort & Country Club is nestled in a scenic valley bordered by mountain peaks climbing nearly 9,000 feet.
The 6,569 yard golf course has all the ingredients to challenge and please golfers of all skill levels. A first-class complex of practice areas has been developed to accommodate future golf schools. Along with other unique features, Golf Architect Cary Bickler has added a "warm-up" hole as a special touch to the practice area. The course is situated on 175 acres; 100 acres of manicured turf with 4 lakes in play. It is landscaped with native desert vegetation including 350 mature date palm trees.
The resort opened a newly constructed 100 room hotel, clubhouse, restaurant, and tennis courts on October 1, 1997 and the golf course will open to the public on January 2, 1998. "This outstanding full-service golf resort has been created to bring the highest quality of recreation and enjoyment to enthusiastic golfers at surprisingly affordable prices," says Bickler.
